Planning Our Lives Can Lead Towards Self Limitation
Let's explore Ch. 14 from "This Is How You Heal" by Brianna Wiest - "Sometimes the paths we plan too intently end up limiting us in some way."
As an over planner, and over analysis expert (which I consider to be effects of generational trauma), this particular chapter really spoke to me.
I also think it’s a topic so many people can relate to. It’s completely human to have fear pop up randomly when we’re on the brink of starting a new journey in our lives, or when we are about to make big decisions. It’s an instinct we all have, and it’s there to protect us. BUT, what many people don’t know is that fear is usually wrong. Fear thinks it’s always right, but most of the time it is totally wrong, and we need to just shush it and have it take a seat in the back….way back.

Sometimes the paths we plan too intently end up limiting us in some way. There are possibilities available to your future self that your current self wouldn’t be able to consider. All your mind can pull from is what it’s known, and if you’re trying to build a life outside of that, then you’re going to have to open yourself to the possibility that not only is there a path toward, but that it may very well lead somewhere better than you thought it would.
Life is not meant to be linear. Meaning it’s not meant to be smooth sailing from start to end. Those twists, turns, and falls throughout our lives are what help us grow, and always be exactly where we are meant to be. They help us arrive to our true purpose and potential.
We all have the bad habit of thinking that life has to be whatever we plan for it to be. When things don’t pan out how we had envisioned them, we get frustrated and classify ourselves as failures. But we didn’t fail….quite the opposite, we are actually winning. Whatever we were planning was not meant to be, because we have a different purpose. Hence, it wasn’t rejection, it’s a redirection. We passed the lesson, are now ready for the correct journey we are destined for.
Life Is A Series of Building Blocks
The twists and turns we face throughout our lives are not meant to be punishment. Although, many times people do see them as “punishment”, and as a result they give up on themselves. Doing this contradicts what the twists and turns of life are truly there for. They happen in order to teach us lessons that are needed in order to evolve and grow as human beings. The lessons are building blocks for us to gain wisdom, clarity, and understanding, in order to jump into a next phase of life, and succeed at it. Therefore, as tough as some of these twists and turns might be, we need to get through them, and trust that somehow, at some point, it will all make sense. Embrace the journey instead of resisting it, flow with it, have faith in it….once you arrive to the next phase in your life, you’ll come out a better person with more abundance in your heart and mind.

We did not come here to arrive at death untouched and unmoved, precisely as we were at the beginning.
This crazy thing called life is not always going to be a smooth ride. But if we open ourselves completely to it, there can be many more beautiful components to it that outdo any bad components. We have to trust in the low moments of our lives as pathways towards bigger and better outcomes for ourselves. We will cry, be sad, get our hearts broken, be scared, be angry throughout our life journey, but we will also laugh, celebrate, love, cherish, smile along the way. Happiness and joy are always at our disposal, but we have to keep our hearts and minds open to receiving it more consistently. Don’t let fear block you from leaping into a new journey. You have nothing to lose ever. It can either A.) work out for you because it was truly meant for you, or B.) be a lesson in your life that was meant for you specifically in order to grow and gain wisdom in preparation for a better path, or a better phase for you. It’s a win/win situation. Either way, it works in your benefit, IF YOU LET IT. YOU are the secret sauce.
Stay Unlocked
Keep your heart’s and mind’s doors open, trust in the redirections and rejections, stay grounded and recalibrate your perspective throughout your journey, and you’ll successfully unlock a wealth of abundance, love, joy, and success into your life. You’ve got this. It’s all YOU.
