Your Emotions Are The Navigation System Towards Your True Purpose, Don't Ignore Them
"What if you could accept that living a purposeful or meaningful or aligned life does not mean you can avoid these feelings altogether, because they are not punishments, they are guides?"
In this essay from “This Is How You Heal”, by Brianna Wiest she brings to light how many of us are very quick to shut down certain feelings and emotions during our lifetime. We automatically take a front seat on the victimhood train when faced with low vibration emotions.
Life is certainly a rollercoaster —— so many happy moments, but we also come face to face with moments of sadness, anger, depression, resentment. Obviously these types of emotions are not ones that make us feel good, so we tend to push them away and tell ourselves that we are fine, all is okay, and we have to keep moving forward.
Emotions Are Our Guides In Life, Good and Bad
While there is truth in moving forward in life, never backwards, we must give ourselves grace to reflect on what we are feeling, when we are feeling it. It’s not so much to honor our emotional state, but more than anything it’s to allow these feelings to communicate with us and steer us towards new wisdom, undiscovered knowledge, epiphanies towards key decisions in our lives. The low feelings in our lives are our internal navigation system —— sure, they take us off course for a bit, but it’s not by accident. These feelings come with purpose, so you steer towards the reality you were destined for, and align with your true self.
What if the very reason why you keep spinning yourself in circles is because you are taking action before the emotion is completely processed, and so you’re missing a piece of the information you need? - Brianna Wiest, This Is How You Heal
You’re Feeling Stuck Because You’re Self Sabatoging
When we feel stagnant or stuck in life, it usually stems from not listening to our emotions. And when we find ourselves going in circles, making the same bad decisions over and over again, or generally not evolving in life —— that’s also a product from ignoring our feelings.
Acknowledging our feelings (good and bad), and allowing ourselves to process them carefully and mindfully will always work in our favor. These emotions push us to jump from point A to point B, as opposed to point A to point Z. We can’t skip over the bad so to speak. It’s all step by step in this journey. Skipping (or ignoring our feelings) steps will lead us to paths far away from our true purpose here.
With that said, don’t do the typical “I’m fine, everything is fine…” when you’re really not. Stop that. Take time to feel and listen to the shitty emotions too. Analyze them, and ask the why, what, and how behind them. Little by little you will uncover nuggets of wisdom that will peel layers off you, so your authenticity can shine more. From there, clarity will pour in more and more, leading you towards making moves in life you hadn't considered before. And then, you’ll arrive at places you were truly meant to be at. You’ll arrive to your purpose. That’s where it all clicks and makes complete sense.
I leave you with some quotes from this essay that really tied it all beautifully together for me:
“Whether it’s hard or easy, simple or complex, happening tomorrow or in ten years, you will know it when it arrives, because it will leave you in a state of wonder, and grace.”
“I hope you will slowly learn how to invest your energy not into resisting what you feel, but building what will be out of the wisdom your experiences have given you.”
“I hope you realize that the world is bendable, and your life is changeable.”
